‘Touchdown’ Mexican Relish Dip

‘Touchdown’ Mexican Relish Dip

My family loves both football and good food, and is always looking for any excuse to get together. Because of this, it is pretty easy to guess what we are going to be doing this Sunday.

Every time there is a big football event, whether it’s the Super Bowl, the National Championship, or Ohio State v. Michigan, my family and I get together to watch the big game while eating delicious and football-inspired foods. We like to keep it simple and laid back, but somehow all of us being together feels like a special occasion no matter the reason. This Super Bowl Sunday we will be heading over to my parents’ house to watch the Ravens v. the 49ers, and you can bet there is going to be a lot of great dishes to make and enjoy.

One of my easiest and most favorite appetizers to bring to a party is a simple Mexican Relish Dip. It literally takes minutes to put together, tastes great, is budget friendly, healthy, and can feed a crowd.

If you are heading out for a Super Bowl party this weekend as well, I highly encourage you to make this recipe to win over the fellow football fanatics, and thank the host/hostess for planning the party. Feel free to add chicken like I did if you would like to make this dish a meal in its own, or leave out the chicken for an easy vegetarian dish everyone, even those meat lovers, will love. No matter how you make it, this dip is sure to guarantee a winning touchdown every time!

  1. Oh YUM! I love how healthy and fresh this looks, not to mention delicious! I’m sure the leftovers would make for an awesome salad topping too. Have a great weekend girl! xoxo

Oh that would be a great idea for the leftovers! I am always looking for ways to mix up my salads… πŸ™‚

I hope you have a great weekend as well lady!

  2. YUM!! I make a really similar dip and LOVE it! I pour it over salads, chicken, anything basically- so good! In my home town they call it cowboy’s caviar πŸ™‚

    • HappyWifeHealthyLife says:

We have cowboy caviar in our hometown too! I have never made it before, but I believe we put black eyed peas in our dip?! Ha ha don’t quote me on that one though! πŸ™‚ My husband loves that stuff!

  3. This looks delicious! I love dips, and I especially love that this one is healthy!

    • HappyWifeHealthyLife says:

Thanks girl! I love dips too, and they always seem to be the first things to go at parties! I think everyone just likes munching on something tasty..!

  4. I hope you cheer for the Wolverines! GO BLUE! This dip looks awesome. I just found avocados for 49 cents each! It’ll be a great addition to my Superbowl menu!

    • HappyWifeHealthyLife says:

Ha ha ha! Sorry lady, I am a buckeye girl at heart! Hope we can still be friends though! πŸ˜‰

Awesome deal on the avocados girl! Let me know if you make it and what you think!

      • I made a very similar version (no celery seed, more cumin) and it was a hit with everyone. I didn’t have the heart to tell all of my alum friends that it was a Buckeye’s creation haha.

Another big rival game TONIGHT. May the best team win:)

  5. My husband would love this!! He is a huge Mexican food fan. I’ll have to save this one. Great idea!

    • HappyWifeHealthyLife says:

Thanks girl! My husband loves it too, but usually requests it without avocado! I don’t know what’s wrong with him….! Ha ha! πŸ˜‰

  6. Great idea! I love it! Looks delish!

  7. YUM…super easy and fresh! Love it!

    • HappyWifeHealthyLife says:

Thanks so much Katie! It really is one of the easiest dishes to make, especially if you are in a hurry to get to a party! πŸ™‚

  8. This sounds great. I would love to make it with extra beans and without the chicken. Thanks for posting a healthy party recipe :).

    • HappyWifeHealthyLife says:

Great plan girl! I have actually made it with a can of pinto beans too! You can replace the chicken with that if you want and you will still have a big amount of dip to share with the fellow party-goers! πŸ™‚

  9. This looks phenomenal!! Almost like a guacamole with extras! I may try tomorrow πŸ™‚

    • HappyWifeHealthyLife says:

Hey Emily! I love guacamole, but my husband is not a fan of avocado at all! (I know, what’s wrong with him? πŸ˜‰ ) So I like to make this dip when he will be eating too because then I can just leave out the avocado for him!
