I am sitting here typing up this post on Tuesday night as we brace ourselves and prepare for the ‘snow apocalypse’ that is expected to come through tonight and tomorrow morning. The funny thing about the weather is that you just never know what you’re going to get and it’s nearly impossible to predict exact results. We were laughing at work yesterday about how three different weather channels had three different weather forecasts. All we know is to expect between “1 and 10 inches of snow,” so we will just have to wait and see how the cards fall! Let’s go ahead and dive right into today’s WIAW, as always, thanks Jenn!
Saturday morning, I headed home from Columbus early after having a fun girl’s night Friday filled with wine, yummy appetizers, and lots and lots of chatting. I don’t get to see my girlfriends as often as I would like, so needless to say I was quite happy to have a few hours to just kick back, relax and catch up with some of my very best friends.
No matter how late I go to bed though, I always seem to wake up naturally early. My eyes slowly peeked opened about 7:45 am Saturday morning, and by 8:00 am I was already all packed up and headed out the door. Whenever I stay away from home, I always like to get moving early the next day so I can get home to catch up on some errands, and see my husband. As corny as it sounds, I really do miss him when we are apart and getting back to see him and Tebow is the only motivation I need to start driving. First though, I had to swing by Starbucks and get a little fuel; my usual Grande Non-Fat Latte was ordered and thoroughly enjoyed. I used a gift card I still had from Christmas, and even added another $5 onto my card for future use. Definitely take advantage of this offer if you are a new member; you have until March 14th!
All the way home I listened to The Message on Sirius and chatted with my mom on the phone. Thanks to the hands free capability in my car, I absolutely love talking while driving. It makes the miles fly by while my two hands remain safely on the wheel. By the time I was just about home, my stomach was growling for some real breakfast and I knew talking Tim into going out with me wouldn’t be too tough. We had a coupon to Scrambler Marie’s so as soon as I got home and unpacked my stuff, we headed back out for some yummy eats. We don’t go out too often for breakfast since we are sticking to a budget, but sometimes it is really nice to mix-it-up a bit. Plus, being stuck at a table together without any other distractions allows us to catch up and just spend a little time together, which is especially important to us when we have spent a night away from each other.
For breakfast, I ordered the American in Training: two egg whites, two turkey sausage patties, honey cracked wheat bread and a fresh fruit cup. It was great and really hit the spot, especially after a night of wine and rich apps!
After breakfast, Tim took me to the local library to finally get my library card. I have been meaning to sign-up ever since we moved, but I just hadn’t gotten around to it until now. I wasted no time once the card was in my grasp though and went ahead and checked out:
- The Hunger Games (I know I am a bit behind on this, but I have seen the movie and really liked it. My goal is to finish the first and second book in the series before the second movie comes out in theaters this fall)!
- Catching Fire (I went ahead and checked out the second book too for an immediate read after I finish the first).
- Where we Belong (I love Emily Giffin’s books (Author of Something Borrowed, etc.) and have read them all except this one. They are easy reads that I have been known to finish in two days while at the beach, so I may need to renew this book before Hilton Head and take it with me then. I absolutely can’t wait to read it)!
When we got home, I was starting to feel a little sleepy so I read The Hunger Games for a little bit and then took a much needed nap. Sometimes when I wake up from naps I can feel a little nauseas until I eat something so I made myself a Dashing Dish Peanut Butter Maple Protein Shake that completely hit the spot! I love these and use a couple large scoops of peanut butter in it. The more peanut butter the better in my eyes!
After I finished my shake, I figured while I was in the kitchen I may as well start working on dinner too. I decided to make this recipe for White Bean and Turkey Pumpkin Chili in the slow cooker. I prepped the ingredients and threw them all in the pot to cook on high for four hours. I then cleaned up the kitchen and did my usual loads of laundry while Tim went to pick up a few more prep tools for the bathroom remodel and a movie for Saturday night.
Since we didn’t eat until about 8 pm, the lighting in my house was nearly non-existent so I decided to scratch a picture of my dinner. However, here is my lunch that was taken Sunday, which is the same meal I ate Saturday night:
We decided to stay in for the evening, so we wanted to put our new blue ray player we bought as a ‘family gift’ at Christmas to good use. He chose End of Watch, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena. Just a warning, this movie was extremely violent and the language was out of control, (aka – not a movie for kids, and was even a little too much for me at times too!), but it really was a pretty great film that I ended up enjoying. I almost cried at the end of the movie and I loved Jake Gyllenhaal’s character; he had a lot of depth and it was interesting to see him in such a different role. If you are in the mood to see a crime/action flick and can get past some of the violence and words, I would really recommend seeing this one.
By the time the movie was over at 10 pm, I was more than ready for bed! Quite the wild Saturday night in our house, huh?
Talk to Me!
- Do you use a library card, or do you prefer to purchase your own books?
- Have you read any good books lately? (I love any reading suggestions)!
- What is your favorite drink to order at Starbucks? (My usual is the non-fat grande latte, but if I splurge, a pumpkin spice latte in the fall or a half-pump mocha the rest of the year)!
- What is your favorite movie genre? (I love comedies and romances, but I also love a suspense/action movie every so often too. I am not a fan of horror movies though)!
- What’s the best thing you’ve ate this week?
