Saturday was my perfect version of a mom and daughter day: Coffee, shopping, lunch, chatting, more shopping, manicures, wine, and dinner complete with a sweet cheesecake ending. What could be better?
Days spent with my mom are always good for my soul. It is wonderful to have a girlfriend I can share everything with and know I can trust 110%. She lets me talk about whatever is on my mind while she simply listens, providing an honest opinion at the end that I always know is completely out of love.
Today’s WIAW documents my fun-filled Saturday spent with my mom. There may even be a guest appearance at the end of the day by someone else very special to me! Read on to find out more!
Our day started about 9:30 am when my mom picked me up and we headed straight for a little fuel; coffee fuel that is. I ordered a medium iced mocha, (non-fat, half-pumps), to satisfy my morning caffeine fix before we arrived at the outlets for a little shopping. I may have shopped ‘til I dropped at J. Crew Factory, getting a few key pieces to spruce up my fall wardrobe including two necklaces and a button up. I am sure all will be making an appearance whether on Instagram or in my Fashion Posts eventually, so I won’t share too much about my finds until then.
We spent a little longer than I anticipated at the outlets, so by the time we arrived at our
brunch lunch destination around 1:00 pm instead of the intended 11:30; we were needless to say both starving. As much as I love a good iced mocha, a complete breakfast it does not make!
The Cobblestone Café welcomed us warmly, complete with two mini strawberry muffins, which we helped ourselves to eagerly. One thing I love about eating out with my mom is the ability for us to split entrees so we 1) don’t feel too full at the end and 2) we are able to try a variety of tastes and flavors.
We each ordered the Lunch Your Way, which came with half a sandwich and a side salad. We both chose the Cobblestone Salad, Cranberries, candied pecans, red onion, and feta cheese served over mesculan greens with a dijon balsamic dressing, and I ordered half the Apple Turkey Sandwich, Garden herbed turkey, apple slices, and melted cheddar cheese served on cinnamon bread, while my mom chose the Toasted Cheese Sandwich, Provolone and asiago melted on your choice of bread with parmesan fried zucchini and fresh tomato basil relish.
We cut our sandwiches in half so we could both enjoy a taste of each kind of sandwich. It was hard to pick a favorite, but I really adored the idea of a turkey sandwich on raisin bread when layered with apples and melty cheese. Salty + Sweet = Winner!
The meal even ended with a complimentary mini chai tea latte. This was an ideal finish to end the meal, but I bet it would be even that much better in the fall and cooler months!
After lunch, we walked around downtown Waynesville for a while to peruse the shops and sights. It was our first time visiting and we definitely felt like tourists! It’s always fun to explore a new town, whether it’s 100 miles away or in your own backyard.
After a couple hours of chatting and window shopping, we left Waynesville for the mall. I had a 50% off five full-priced items at Banana Republic (darn you sales!) and I wanted to take advantage of the deal. I tried to be a good wife and even got Tim a few things with my discount. Now that’s true love! Ha! I also may or may not have gotten a new pair of jeans at Von Maur. (Thanks mom)! All in all, my fall wardrobe is really starting to shape up! What I would still like to find are a couple pairs of shoes; maybe a scarf or two, and I should be just about good to go!
Next up on the girl’s day agenda was manicures at the Woodhouse Day Spa. And let me tell you, these were the best manicures of my life! You know how usually during a manicure you have to sit up at a table? This always seems to hurt my back and neck a little, which is one of the reasons why I don’t splurge on a manicure too often. It can be hard to keep that posture looking good for too long! During these manicures though, we got to sit back in a massage chair while getting our nails done. Heaven! We had the Spritzer Manicure, A classic, soothing manicure. A silky organic massage with natural botanicals and essential oils followed by a coconut oil paraffin treatment is sure to soften, revitalize and condition nails and cuticles. What was an even bigger surprise was that it only cost $30! I would have expected a manicure like this to cost a minimum of $50+. And did I mention we each had two glasses of wine included along with our manicure experience? I can’t wait to go back again soon! I think the Facial + Pedicure combo may be calling my name!
After all the fun of the day, we were feeling exhausted, and hungry! Our special guest and ‘chaperone’ after all that wine even showed up to whisk us girls off to dinner at one of my favorite places: The Cheesecake Factory.
My mom and I split the Crispy Chicken Costoletta, Chicken Breast Lightly Breaded and Sautéed to a Crisp Golden Brown. Served with Lemon Sauce, Mashed Potatoes and Fresh Asparagus. I think this may be one of my new favorite entrees to order at Cheesecake.
Good news too, you could feed an entire small family for only $17 with this meal. My mom and I both ate and we still had an entire chicken breast and 1/3 of the mashed potatoes to take home as leftovers.
As full as we were though, there is always magically room for cheesecake at the end of the meal. We split a slice of the Red Velvet Cheesecake and I took about 1/3 of it home with me, which my sweet tooth happily polished off Sunday!
What an awesome and memorable day with my mom, and what a special dinner shared with two of my favorite people. I definitely felt spoiled, loved and blessed Saturday, and I appreciated every single minute of it!
