There is something I have owed all of you since back in September, and I feel like a ridiculously bad blogger for keeping it a secret for so long.  Here is the thing, so often in life I am a perfectionist.  I battle this urge to be perfect at least once every day.  Thankfully, after years of practice, I am beginning to cut myself a little slack while learning to embrace being human.  Is it pretty?  Not always, but I am learning that it is okay to be less than flawless at times.

Bathroom Accessories

So here is the thing, I have been teasing about a bathroom remodel since Labor Day weekend.  Remember the before pictures I shared at the end of the summer last year?  If not, these should refresh your memory.

Bathroom_Remodel_Before

Yes, not my favorites and I literally still cringe at the sight of blue countertops, peeling linoleum and outdated lighting. (Seriously, you could get a tan under those bulbs!  The lights would literally increase the temperature in the bathroom 20+ degrees…  Not ideal for getting ready!)  Here are a few progress pictures too!

The truth is that I am obsessed with my remodeled bathroom.  I know my husband worked very hard to get it all just right and to fit our personal design taste.  So why haven’t I shared the final project yet you may ask?

It’s because I don’t think it is quite finished…  Hear me out; the structure and foundation of the bathroom may be there, but it is the little things like  wall art, new plush towels, baskets for shelving, more pretty containers, etc., that are still missing.  I have started purchasing some accessories like a new soap dispenser, shower curtain and rod, and candle holders.  Basically all the details are not there yet so I chose not share the ‘after’ until it felt complete.

If I am truly being honest with myself though, my bathroom may never feel complete.  I may always want to change this or do that, and if I keep with that attitude I may never find contentment in even the most beautiful spaces.

Life isn’t about getting by until we cross the finish line; it is about relishing in the moments leading up to the culmination.  That is why I have decided today to simply count my blessings, be appreciative, relish my Tuesday, and share with all of you my ‘imperfect’ master bathroom that I love so very much!

I know all the pretty details will fall into place over time.  Until that day though, my goal is to soak in each morning I am getting ready for the day, and each evening while preparing for bed in a beautiful room that was remodeled by hands and a heart that I love so dearly.

Before and After Bathroom Remodel

Conversation Time.

  • Do you tend to wait for the Finish Line in life, or do you instead choose to relish in the everyday moments?
  • Have you done any remodeling lately?  What in your opinion makes a room feel complete?
  • If you could remodel any room in your house, which one would it be?

  1. That is beautiful! I wish I had a bathroom that large, haha. It is seriously gorgeous and I’d probably want to spend all my time in there, lol. I’m like you, though, and never feel like I’m totally done with things!

  3. It’s beautiful girl! You guys did a great job with it! Did you guys do it all on your own? I’m right there with ya the perfectionism thing. Thanks for sharing and being open about that. 🙂 xoxo

Thanks friend! I honestly cannot take any credit for it except maybe the color scheme and accessories; Tim literally did the entire thing on his own and it was a big learning experience since he had never taken on a remodeling job of that caliber. It took him about a month and a half, but it saved us a ton of money by diying!

  4. I’d kill for double sinks. I totally know what you mean about feeling like your work isn’t done. I feel that way with every remodel. We just finished decorating our guest room and then I looked at it completed and said, “I want to paint the walls again.” We just painted them about 2 years ago. It never ends!

Ahh I hate to admit this but we are doing the same thing in my living room; repainting even though we just did a few years ago! I think this happens when you are young and finding your style; things just need to change sometimes… trial and error! 🙂

  5. Love the dark stain!

    • HappyWifeHealthyLife says:

Thanks Ashlee! I really like it too! One of my favorite locals spas have a dark wood floor with dark wood cabinets in their locker room and I loved it and wanted to re-create the feel! 🙂

  6. Love it Jana! Could you explain what you used for the counter tops? They looks great!

  7. I feel like things are more complete when pictures are hung, like that is the final step!

  8. Very cute! I love the dark wood, and I bet it’s so nice to have a double sink! I can’t wait to see all the little details once you feel like it’s “complete”, even though it’s very nice right now! Thanks for sharing!

  9. It looks great! Love the dark cabinetry! We don’t have much remodeling to do, since we moved into a new house, but we do have a TON of decorating to do! We finally ordered new living room furniture back in December, but we have to wait a while for it to come in! In the meantime, we definitely need to start painting!

  10. I am through and through a “relish-in-everyday-moments” girl. For all I know I could die tomorrow– why should i deprive myself of enjoyment in every moment? Doesn’t mean I always have to be perfectly happy, but I think there is always something to appreciate.

If I were to renovate, I’d renovate my room and our big spacey extra room!

  11. You should be very proud of that bathroom. It really looks fabulous! I never feel like any of the interior decorating I do is done. I always find something better that I want and I’m constantly upgrading.
