Thanksgiving Weekend 2016

This weekend was just what I needed: Nonstop family time, plenty of delicious food, making so many new memories, resting and reflecting, and experiencing incredible reminders of how good I have it. Reminders of how thankful I should be each day for the blessings that are all around me.

Thanksgiving 2016

I find it so frustrating that at times it does takes an annual holiday of thanks for me to be reminded of the beauty around me, but I am also grateful to have those moments to be prompted to thank God for all that I’ve been given and for how far I have come. I can take my life and those in it for granted at times, but I hope to continue working to show gratitude, appreciation, and thanks to those in my life, for all they do and for all they mean to me.

Thanksgiving 2016

Early Thanksgiving morning we ran the annual local Turkey Trot, a five miler pre-turkey dinner race. This year I actually ran it alongside Tebow and he rocked all five miles!

We finished in 47:50, so a 9:34 mile pace. Not my fastest Turkey Trot finish, but I honestly haven’t done any long distance running since having Jack, so I was very happy to have a decent finish! Plus I felt great pretty much the whole run, so I think this proved to myself that I’m finally starting to make some strides – Pun intended! – with my fitness. Especially when I compare where I was at last year to this year! So many things to be thankful for!!

After the Trot, we feasted on the traditional fare – turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, roasted brussels sprouts, and stuffing – and I also added a new item that was a kale salad with feta, roasted butternut squash, pomegranate seeds and toasted walnuts.

We also sipped coffee and ate dessert including chocolate chip pecan pie, ice cream, birthday cake, and pumpkin pie, while checking out the ads for Black Friday shopping. (Anyone find any good sales??)

Thanksgiving 2016

Speaking of Black Friday, I think we were just about the worst deal shoppers ever and didn’t end up really shopping until about 4 o’clock Friday evening. We still found some good stuff though, including the items we hoped were still on sale! We went to Columbus to visit the Easton and go to a few stores we don’t have locally, and it was gorgeous! All lit up and ready for the holiday season.

Thanksgiving 2016

Saturday was all about game day – the Ohio State v. Michigan football game! My mom made a ton of football food and my whole family cozied up in my parents basement to watch rivalry week. It was a really nice day to just relax and be together before my brother and his girlfriend headed back to Kentucky, and before Tim, Jack, Tebow, and I headed home too!

Thanksgiving 2016

Sunday we went to a local Christmas tree farm to pick a tree, and if you follow me on Instagram, then you already know I was a bit indecisive! After about two hours of searching, I decided to head back to the car with the boys while Tim picked out the tree. Sometimes you just have to know when to walk away and trust your husband’s decision – and this was one of those times! I can’t wait to decorate both the tree and my house this week!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend. I have an incredibly fun giveaway coming Wednesday so make sure you are on the lookout!!

  1. Sounds like such a fun weekend! Who pushed the stroller, you or Tim? haha I think this year we are actually going to go to a tree farm to get one cut down, hoping I can pick one!

My mom actually pushed the stroller! Last year I was still recovering from having Jack, so my mom and I walked together and I pushed the stroller. This year she volunteered to push so that I could run! 🙂

  2. Such a great weekend! Glad you were able to do the turkey trot! We wanted to do one so bad but A ended up being sick so we were house bound, meh! Looks like you had lots of family time, and Jack looks precious! Christmas shopping is always so much more fun when everything is all decked out 😉

Thanks lady! Jack and I have actually had a bit of a stomach bug this week, so we have been laying low and trying to rest. I am hoping it is just a 24-48 hour thing!!
