The Last Year of My 20’s

Tomorrow I will turn 29 years old. The last year of my 20’s. How can this be?

Age 29 - Birthday Post

There was a time when I would have thought 29 sounded so old, but now I just feel so… young. Yes, I have an incredible amount of very adult responsibilities – a husband, two babies, multiple jobs, bills, etc. – but I honestly still feel as if I have my whole life ahead of me. I am excited for the future and believe that the best is yet to come. There is so much I want to accomplish, so many goals and hopes even in just this next year of life before I turn 30. With each year I think I get a little smarter, and a little more ambitious than the one before. And not only do I get to go after these dreams, but I get to do so with a beautiful family by my side.

As I welcome a new age, I like to look back on the previous year and reflect. I also like to sum up the year in one or two words. When I looked back on year 25, I chose perspective-changing, and year 26 was humbling. If I had to choose a word to describe year 27, it would be unplanned. When I turned 27, I had no idea that before I celebrated another birthday I would be a mom to two beautiful babies. I also didn’t know that my Beautycounter business would take off like it has, or that we would sell our home and be in the process of building. There were so many unplanned events and blessing this year that were not realized a year ago.

My point is that life can dramatically change in a year. You have no idea what the next month or even week will bring, so if you feel down or stuck today – make a change. Take a chance. Put the work into it and just keep moving forward, with loads of grace, prayers, and help along the way.

I usually don’t choose a focus word before beginning a new age, but I really hope that I’ll look back a year from now and see 29 as the year of family. This year I want to truly focus on my family and the stage of life we’re in. Having two kids age two and under is really hard. It’s been a big transition, and one that often falls in line with the ‘days are long, but the years are short’ saying. I absolutely don’t want to wish these days with my babies away, and I’m going to do my best to really be present when I’m with them. To let Jack get a little messy and dirty. To hold Savannah as long as she wants to be held. To go on more dates with my husband. To say I love you more. And to savor these sweet memories with my family.

Cheers to the last day of being 28, and looking forward to year 29! There’s so much to celebrate.

I love this!!! I just turned 29 in August, and I welcomed my birthday feeling EXCITED for my last year in my 20s, and actually looking forward to my 30th birthday next summer. I completely agree with you that each year, I feel more confident and self-assured, and I know that my 30s will be an incredible decade! One to celebrate, not be fearful of :).

  2. Crazy that we’re ALMOST TO 30! I used to think it seemed so old, and it’s funny to look back and think about where I thought I’d be, and where I actually am. It’s all about perspective for sure! I love these photos of you – so pretty, my friend!

  4. I can relate to this so much. I’ll be 29 in March. I don’t feel old at all, but like I’m my same self, just a lot more mature and sure of what I want. I can so relate to things being unplanned. I also didn’t envision myself with 2 kids by this age yet. I think my younger self thought maybe I’d just be starting to try to have kids now or by 30. My photography business was also unplanned. But both of those things are so good in my life.

I love your word. I really want to focus more on family too.
